According to sources, the caretaker government is expected to provide significant relief to the public by potentially reducing petrol prices starting from December 16.
The insiders disclosed that owing to a decline in global petroleum product prices, the government may convey this benefit to the nation during the fortnightly review scheduled for December 15.
It is anticipated that the price of petrol could decrease by Rs13 per litre, and diesel by Rs15 per litre. The public is hopeful for a reduction in rates considering the downward trend in global prices.
On Monday, oil prices experienced a dip amid concerns about crude oversupply, despite OPEC+ cuts, and expectations of softer fuel demand growth in the coming year. The price decline on Friday marked the seventh consecutive week of falling prices, the longest such streak since 2018, fueled by persistent concerns about oversupply.
Until December 15, the caretaker federal government maintained the petrol price at Rs281.34 per litre. The current prices for various petroleum products are as follows:
