Megastar Mahira Khan has shared a fun anecdote about how fans still recognize her while she shops in the bazaars of Karachi and Lahore, even when she’s wearing a burqa. The actress, best known for her role in the hit drama Humsafar, spoke at the 17th World Urdu Conference held at the Arts Council Karachi, where she opened up about her experiences shopping incognito.
The actress revealed that she often requests to visit local markets, joking with her manager, “You guys never take me to places like the lighthouse; I’ve heard they have great items there.” She even suggested going in a burqa to blend in.
However, Mahira shared that despite being covered from head to toe, people still recognize her, often by her voice. “It’s impossible for me to stay silent while shopping—it wouldn’t be fun,” she said. “People hear my voice and ask, ‘Are you Mahira Khan?’ To which I usually deny and say, ‘I’m not Mahira.’”
Mahira Khan’s global presence continues to grow, as she was recently honored in the UK Parliament for her outstanding contributions to international cinema and her role as a cultural ambassador. The award ceremony, held in the House of Commons, was hosted by Member of Parliament Afzal Khan and celebrated her influence on cultural exchange and women’s empowerment.
