According to remarks made by French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday, France will provide radar and air defence systems to Ukraine in the upcoming weeks, specifically to assist Ukraine in defending itself against drone and missile threats.
In an interview with France 2 television, Macron avoided discussing the specifics of the type or quantity of anti-aircraft missiles that will be supplied.
The stakes have increased as a result of a spate of strikes this week on Ukrainian cities, and Kyiv is now demanding that its allies deliver more supplies, including air defence systems, something that Paris has so far refused to do.
In order to “defend the country against drone and missile assaults,” Macron added that radar and anti-air missiles would be sent in the upcoming weeks. “This is a new phase of bombing coming from land, sea, air, and drones against key infrastructure and civilians,” he stated.
Ukraine had already received shoulder-launched Mistral anti-aircraft missiles from Paris. Paris will provide Crotale short-range anti-air missiles, which are meant to intercept low-flying missiles and planes, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
After being criticised repeatedly for not doing enough, the Ukrainian defence ministry uploaded a video on social media on Wednesday encouraging France to express its love by providing weapons.
It was unclear if Wednesday’s declaration will alter the impression that France is not exerting itself militarily enough.
“We can’t give the Ukrainians all they ask for because we need to maintain some of it to defend our eastern flank. We are defending our country’s borders “He spoke
