In a landmark step toward advancing gender equality and women’s leadership, the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has appointed Lt Gen (retd) Nigar Johar Khan as its official brand ambassador for women empowerment and related initiatives.
The announcement was made during a special event titled “SHE Leads – A Tribute to Women” held at RCCI’s Chamber House. The ceremony celebrated the strength, resilience, and extraordinary achievements of women across Pakistan, with Lt Gen (retd) Johar—Pakistan’s first and only female three-star general—honored as the chief guest.
RCCI President Usman Shahkat, in his opening remarks, praised Johar’s trailblazing career, describing it as a powerful story of courage, dedication, and barrier-breaking achievements. “She has redefined the boundaries of possibility for women in Pakistan and serves as a symbol of inspiration,” he stated.
Group Leader Sohail Altaf reaffirmed RCCI’s commitment to inclusive development, emphasizing that women are vital contributors to the country’s progress. “Events like these highlight the essential role women play in shaping Pakistan’s future while celebrating our national icons,” he added.
In her keynote address, Lt Gen (retd) Johar commended RCCI’s proactive approach to promoting gender equality and fostering leadership opportunities for women. “Empowering women and creating spaces where they can lead, thrive, and influence change is vital for national development,” she said.
She also emphasized the importance of unity and collective action, endorsing RCCI’s upcoming solidarity walk in support of Palestine, organized in collaboration with the Palestinian ambassador.
The event saw participation from RCCI Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Vice President Fahad Barlas, former presidents, executive committee members, Director AIC Ijaz Qamar Kayani, and a significant number of women entrepreneurs and professionals.
