Years after his widely publicized huffing arrest, former child actor Bug Hall has left the glitz and glamour of Hollywood behind to embrace a quiet, homesteading lifestyle. The actor, who rose to fame in the classic film The Little Rascals, now identifies as a “radical Catholic extremist” and has relocated his family to a rural area near Mountain Home, Arkansas, according to the Daily Mail.
Hall, 40, told the outlet that he has voluntarily renounced the wealth he earned as a child actor, taking what he describes as a vow of poverty. “I already gave up the money I made as a kid,” he explained. “I’ve donated all my savings along with most of my material items. My goal is to live a life as free of any need for an income as possible.”
In keeping with this lifestyle, Hall says he will only take on occasional work or odd jobs to meet necessary financial needs. Currently, the actor and his family live in a campervan equipped with a water well and generator. Plans are underway for a fully off-the-grid homestead, including a house with its own hydroelectric dam, plumbing, and electrical systems.
Hall and his wife, Jill, whom he married in 2017, are homeschooling their four daughters and son, strongly discouraging them from attending traditional schools or pursuing college when they reach the appropriate age.
The move has extended beyond Hall’s immediate family. His younger brother, Gemini Barnett, their mother, Twila, and stepfather, Mark, have all relocated to Arkansas, purchasing their own plots of land nearby.
Reflecting on his decision to leave the entertainment industry, Hall said that a 2010 arrest in Weatherford, Texas, for allegedly huffing air duster cans played a pivotal role. He faced misdemeanor possession charges but ultimately was not charged. He noted that he had been sober for 15 years prior to the incident, and the public nature of the arrest made him re-evaluate his life.
“While I loved making movies, that wake-up call made me realize I didn’t want to live a life of manipulation—of myself or others,” Hall said. “I wanted to stop living in a way that controlled or exploited people through the work I made or produced. Including myself, as an addict.”
Hall’s story marks a dramatic shift from Hollywood fame to a life of self-sufficiency, religious devotion, and family-focused living—showing a side of the former star few ever expected.
