QUETTA, June 25 — After two days of complete darkness and blistering 50°C heat, electricity has finally been restored to Balochistan’s Makran Division, the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) announced on Tuesday.
The outage, which began around 2:30pm on Sunday, cut off power to the entire region — affecting key districts including Gwadar, Kech, and Panjgur — after the suspension of electricity supply from Iran.
According to Qesco, full restoration was achieved by 1am Tuesday via the 132-KV Pishin-Mand and Polan-Jiwani transmission lines. Grid stations across Mand, Tump, Turbat, Hoshab, Panjgur, Jiwani, Gwadar Door, Gwadar Deep Sea Port, New Gwadar International Airport, Pasni, and Ormara are now receiving uninterrupted power.
“People endured extreme hardship during the outage, with temperatures hitting 50 degrees Celsius throughout the week,” a Qesco spokesperson said.
During the blackout, the utility company diverted supply from Pakistan’s national grid to partially sustain electricity to the affected areas.
Residents and businesses, particularly in the port city of Gwadar, had faced significant disruption as the searing heat worsened living conditions during the prolonged outage.
