The Lahore High Court has scheduled the appeals of PTI leaders Ijaz Chaudhry and Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed for an important hearing on December 4. Both leaders received 10-year prison sentences in the May 9 cases and are now seeking to overturn the convictions.
According to the court schedule, a two-member bench led by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi will hear the appeals. The decision marks a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings stemming from the events of May 9.
Court Summons Prosecution and Complete Case Record
The high court has summoned the prosecution along with the complete case record for the upcoming hearing. This indicates that the bench intends to review all aspects of the trial before reaching any decision.
Lawyers representing the appellants have also been instructed to present their arguments on the same day. Consequently, the hearing is expected to examine the original trial court proceedings in detail.
Appellants Challenge Convictions Over โFaulty Evaluationโ
In their appeals, both petitioners argue that the trial court did not properly evaluate the facts surrounding their cases. They claim the verdict ignored key elements that could have influenced the final judgment.
Therefore, the appellants are requesting the Lahore High Court to set aside the convictions and acquit them of all charges. Their stance centres on the belief that the trial process did not meet the required standards of fairness.
Hearing Seen as a Significant Legal Milestone
Because the May 9 events resulted in numerous arrests and major political consequences, the appeals carry considerable public interest. Moreover, the outcome of this hearing may shape future legal strategies in similar cases.
The December 4 session will, therefore, be a critical moment for both leaders as they attempt to overturn their sentences and clear their names.
