Punjab Weather Update: Thundershowers Expected to Persist for 3 More Days

The monsoon rains in Punjab show no signs of letting up. Lahore experienced a mix of sunshine and clouds today, with the city’s temperature currently at 27°C and humidity at 85%, according to the Met Department. More thunder-showers are forecasted for Lahore this evening, with the rain expected to persist for the next three days. Today’s temperatures ranged from a high of 36°C to a low of 26°C, offering some relief from the summer heat.

The monsoon’s impact extended to other regions of the country as well. Intermittent rain was reported along the national highway in Chichawatni, Mian Channu, Khanewal, Basti Maluk, and Abdul Hakeem, as well as on Motorway M3 in Multan and Rajana. These showers have caused challenges such as road slippage and power outages in some areas. The Motorway Police have issued an advisory urging drivers to be cautious due to the slippery road conditions.

Heavy showers also hit Khanewal, Lodhran, Shorkot, and Jalalpur Pirwala, resulting in pleasant weather. In agricultural regions like Dunyapur, however, the persistent rain poses a risk to cotton crops, despite the welcome cooler temperatures. Isakhel also reported heavy rainfall, with the surrounding regions enjoying similarly pleasant weather. While the rains have caused some disruptions, including feeder trips and power outages in Lodhran, they have generally been welcomed for providing relief from the intense heat.

Meanwhile, Karachi has also seen a turn towards cooler weather, with light rain and drizzle reported in various areas, offering much-needed respite from the heat. Areas such as North Karachi, New Karachi, Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, and Tower experienced light showers, bringing down temperatures and refreshing the atmosphere. The Met Department expects light rain and drizzle to continue throughout most of the city today. After weeks of warm and humid conditions, the monsoon season has brought a much-appreciated improvement in weather for Karachi’s residents.
