The spokesperson affirmed that the United States continues its dedication to promoting democratic principles in Pakistan.

ISLAMABBAD: The State Department responded cautiously to the recent arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, choosing to remain silent and labeling the matter as Pakistan’s internal matter.

A reporter asked State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller about the US government’s stance on Imran Khan’s detention. Miller reffered Imran Khan’s arrest as Pakistan’s internal matter.

Miller asserted, “The cases against Imran Khan and other politicians in Pakistan are an internal matter.”

He went further to emphasise that the United States remains committed to promoting democratic principles and the rule of law worldwide, including in Pakistan.

“We call for the respect of democratic principles and the rule of law in Pakistan, as we do around the world,” the department said. They have consistently dismissed Imran Khan’s allegations of the US ousting his government as “baseless.”

On Saturday, authorities arrested Mr. Khan for the second time in three months at his Zaman Park residence.

This happened shortly after the Islamabad sessions court sentenced him to three years in prison . Imran khan is disqualified him for five years in the Toshakhana criminal case.

The judge also imposed a fine of 100,000 rupees (approximately $350) on him.

Government Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb told reporters, “Today, a thief has been arrested.”

They transferred the deposed premier to Attock Jail for his detention and conducted a medical examination.

According to the sources, the authorities will subsequently move the chairman to Adala Jail.
