Clashes Erupt in Karachi: Six Police Officers Injured in Stone-Pelting Protest

KARACHI: The situation at Regal Chowk was brought under control as protesters dispersed following a substantial deployment of police.

Authorities stated that a large contingent of anti-riot police was sent to the area to restore order. Officers moved into the surrounding streets, leading to a partial resumption of traffic on major roads.

The protest in the Sadar area escalated into clashes, resulting in injuries to five police officers, including two women. Rescue officials confirmed that the injured officers were taken to Civil Hospital for treatment.

The injured personnel, identified as Taha, Munir Ali, Ismail, Manthar Ali, and Shaheen, were stationed at Kalri, Napier, and Eidgah police stations in Karachi. Rescue teams acted swiftly to ensure they received immediate medical care.

In response to the unrest, the Karachi administration has imposed Section 144 for two days, banning gatherings and rallies throughout the city. This prohibition will be effective on October 18 and 19, and prohibits assemblies of five or more individuals, processions, and public meetings to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.

Additionally, the Punjab government has also enforced Section 144 across the province, effective from Friday, October 18.
