KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing free breakfast and milk to school children across the province.
At a ceremony held in Karachi, Governor Tessori inaugurated the “Governor’s Initiative for Free Breakfast for Students,” stressing the fundamental importance of ensuring that no child attends school on an empty stomach. He emphasized that the program will guarantee that all students receive a nutritious breakfast at their schools, regardless of their economic background.
Governor Tessori underscored the alarming findings of a survey highlighting the prevalence of poverty and inflation in the province. Shockingly, many children had not consumed milk in two years, some had not had eggs in six months, and some even arrived at school without having eaten breakfast.
Drawing parallels with the successful enrollment of 50,000 children in the IT program at the Governor’s House, Governor Tessori asserted that no child will be permitted to attend school without access to a proper breakfast. The initiative will commence with 100 government schools and will gradually expand to encompass more institutions.
Furthermore, Governor Tessori announced plans to implement the program not only in Karachi but also across Sindh. A dedicated website will facilitate the registration process for schools wishing to participate in the initiative.
Expressing gratitude for the collaborative efforts, Governor Tessori acknowledged MQM-Pakistan Chairman and Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, as well as Saylani Welfare Trust Chairman Bashir Farooqi. He affirmed the Governor’s House’s steadfast commitment to various initiatives, including IT education and food security, driven by a sincere desire to serve the community.
Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui echoed the urgency of educational reform, highlighting that millions of children across Pakistan are deprived of access to education. He stressed the transformative impact of incorporating these marginalized children into the educational system, citing the potential to significantly enhance the nation’s educational landscape.
Siddiqui commended Governor Tessori for his support of the federal government’s educational emergency initiative in Sindh, emphasizing the program’s potential to alleviate poverty and increase school attendance among underprivileged children.
Bashir Farooqi, Chairman of Saylani Welfare Trust, extended appreciation to Khalid Maqbool for spearheading the program and lauded Governor Tessori’s unwavering commitment. He assured that Karachi’s compassionate residents would provide free breakfast to children and extend additional support through health assessments and other welfare initiatives.
