ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) showed an increase of 16.2% in July 2021 on year-on-year basis as compared to an increase of 13.7% in July 2020. The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) surged by 17.3% year-on-year in July 2021 in comparison with an increase of 3.2% in July 2020.

Meanwhile, CPI inflation in rural areas was recorded at 8.0% on a year-on-year basis in July 2021 as compared to an increase of 9.7% in the previous month and 11.6% in July 2020. On a month-on-month basis, it remained at 1.4% in July 2021 as compared to a decrease of 0.06% in the previous month and an increase of 3% in July 2020.
Interestingly, consumers believe that the PBS data does not show realistic consumer prices as inflation is high in the country.
