ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has scheduled a hearing for a review plea filed by Monal Restaurant against its closure orders.
Monal Restaurant is one of Islamabad’s most popular dining spots, renowned for its breathtaking views and diverse menu.
A three-member SC bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, will hear the review pleas of Monal Restaurant, Sunshine Heights, and La Montana Restaurant on September 5. The bench also includes Justice Jamal Mandokhail and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.
On August 15, the Supreme Court issued a contempt of court notice to Malik Luqman Ali Afzal, the owner of Monal Restaurant, located in the Margalla Hills.
During a case concerning commercial activities in the Margalla Hills National Park, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa criticized the restaurant owner for not appearing in court and for allegedly engaging in “propaganda” against the judiciary on television, despite previously assuring the court of the restaurant’s closure.
The Chief Justice remarked that Malik Luqman Ali Afzal should offer jobs to Monal’s staff at his other eateries.
A recent post on Monal’s social media confirmed the restaurant’s impending closure. “It’s time to say Goodbye. As per Honorable SCP directions, we are closing on 11/09/2024,” the post read.
