The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has made the decision to revoke the Saturday holiday for educational institutions run by the federal government. This change will be in effect from November 30, 2024, until February 1, 2025. The move comes in response to the significant academic losses students faced during the prolonged school closures, which were implemented as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To make up for these lost hours and ensure students receive the full academic experience, all federal government educational institutions will now observe Saturdays as regular working days. The decision was communicated through an official notification issued by the FDE. It emphasizes that Saturdays, previously designated as a day off, will now be used for academic activities, effective starting tomorrow.
This step is part of the government’s efforts to recover the time lost during the extended closures and ensure that students are adequately prepared for the academic challenges ahead. The shift is also expected to align with efforts to bring the educational calendar back to normal.
By adjusting the weekly schedule, the FDE aims to provide a comprehensive educational experience, ensuring that students are not left behind in their learning journey. The revision to the school timetable is seen as a necessary step to address the academic setbacks caused by unforeseen interruptions in the academic year.
