ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police have transferred Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed to the Balochistan Police in connection with a 2023 case. Sanam Javed, wanted in Quetta’s Bijli Road Police Station under 15 sections, including terrorism, will be produced in court for a transit remand before being moved to Balochistan.
Her arrest was facilitated by Islamabad Police at the request of the Balochistan authorities. Following her detention, Javed’s father, Javed Iqbal Khan, challenged its legality in the Islamabad High Court. The petition names the federal government, FIA, Islamabad police chief, and others, demanding her immediate court production, release, and details of all cases against her, arguing her detention as illegal.
Sanam Javed’s legal team has raised concerns about the unjust nature of her detention, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to legal procedures. The team has filed a petition and it is expected that the Islamabad High Court will review the case in the near future.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court dismissed a case against Javed over tweets on the social media platform X. Duty Magistrate Malik Imran accepted her lawyers’ request for exclusion from the case, pronouncing the reserved verdict on her remand.
In a surprising development, Sanam Javed was re-arrested shortly after being acquitted by the Islamabad court. Released from custody following the court’s decision, she was apprehended again upon arriving at her lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq’s office. Ashfaq confirmed the re-arrest on social media, stating that Islamabad Police had taken Javed into custody and emphasized their cooperation with law enforcement, handing her over without resistance.
