The Punjab government has unveiled an innovative initiative to tackle rising air pollution while providing employment opportunities. The plan includes launching an e-taxi service, offering electric vehicles (EVs) to online taxi drivers through attractive packages, including down payment or easy installment options.
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan highlighted that the program aims to replace a significant portion of online taxis with EVs. He noted that the transition will not only cut air pollution but also bring financial benefits to drivers, with fuel savings of up to 40%.
The scheme addresses the increasing demand for online taxi services and the urgent need to reduce urban pollution, especially in Lahore.
Key Features of the E-Taxi Initiative:
- Environmentally Friendly Fleet: EVs will help reduce emissions and enhance air quality.
- Affordable Acquisition: Drivers can own EVs via easy payment plans.
- Economic Benefits: Lower fuel costs translate to higher income for drivers.
- Job Creation: Employment opportunities for the unemployed population.
Minister Bilal Akbar Khan reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing the environment and boosting the economy through such initiatives.
