Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced that the alleged rape incident involving a female student at a private college in Lahore remains unconfirmed, with an inquiry report expected within 48 hours. Bokhari emphasized that no evidence has surfaced to substantiate the allegations and condemned political adversaries for spreading misinformation on social media to stir unrest.
Speaking at a session in the Punjab Assembly, Bokhari underscored the need to refrain from politicizing student issues. She criticized the practice of using school and college students for political purposes, calling it harmful and inappropriate. “Students should not be exploited for political gain,” she stressed.
The father of the alleged victim has also denied any such incident, clarifying that his daughter recently suffered injuries from a fall down the stairs. He appealed to the public to avoid jumping to conclusions and to respect his family’s privacy during this time.
In the wake of the alleged incident, protests erupted at the college, leading to a clash between students and police. Bokhari reported that 24 students and four policemen sustained injuries during the altercation.
Bokhari further denounced the circulation of false information, attributing it to political opponents attempting to create chaos. She maintained that the ongoing investigation would soon clarify the facts, urging patience from the public until the official inquiry report is released.
