Mohsin Naqvi, currently serving as the Interim Chief Minister of Punjab, is reportedly poised to be nominated for the esteemed position of Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Upon receiving the prime minister’s nod, Naqvi is expected to succeed Zaka Ashraf as the Chairman of the PCB Management Committee within the Board of Governors. Naqvi, a media channel owner who has held the interim chief minister role for a year, confirmed his impending appointment during interactions with reporters in Lahore, expressing his commitment to addressing issues affecting Pakistan cricket and emphasizing the necessity for cricket reforms.

Zaka Ashraf resigned from his position as the Chairman of the PCB Management Committee last Friday, making the announcement during a committee meeting. The 72-year-old had taken on the role on July 6, replacing Najam Sethi. Ashraf cited challenges in working under existing conditions and stated that the decision of his successor rests with Prime Minister Kakar.

During Ashraf’s tenure, Pakistan participated in two significant competitions, the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. However, the Men in Green fell short of reaching the final in the Asia Cup and failed to qualify for the semi-finals in the World Cup.
