LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” scheme on Wednesday, aimed at providing affordable housing to the people of Punjab.
In her speech, Maryam Nawaz expressed pride in the successful creation of the scheme, highlighting the government’s dedication to swiftly building homes for those in need. “We have succeeded in creating this scheme, and we will rapidly build houses and deliver them to the people,” she said.
Maryam Nawaz mentioned that both she and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had been eagerly anticipating this initiative. She recalled that during his tenure, Nawaz Sharif had distributed land to farmers, and now, they were continuing that legacy.
She emphasized the profound impact of homeownership, stating, “It is said that providing someone with a home and a roof is the greatest service.”
To support this initiative, she announced that the government would offer a 1.5 million rupee interest-free loan for 5 marla land in urban areas and 10 marla land in rural areas, with no payments required for the first three months.
The Punjab CM also detailed the affordability of the scheme, noting that the monthly installment would be 14,000 rupees. “I understand the challenges faced by low-income families, and this scheme is designed to ease their financial burden,” she added.
In addition to the housing initiative, Maryam Nawaz announced a major relief package for electricity bills, totaling 45 to 50 billion rupees.
She also revealed plans for the largest solar program in Pakistan’s history, set to launch next year, with the goal of eliminating the need for electricity bills in the future.
“Maryam Nawaz is introducing the biggest solar program in history from next year, so you won’t have to pay electricity bills,” she declared.
The “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” scheme is a key element of Maryam Nawaz’s efforts to provide relief and improve living conditions for the people of Punjab.
