Punjab chief minister announces plan to establish first public sector cancer hospital in Lahore

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the first government cancer hospital will be established near Valencia Town in Lahore.

The chief minister examined the potential site for the hospital. She was also given a briefing regarding the hospital on the site. The CM also authorized the construction of a hotel for the attendants of cancer patients. 

Maryam also said that the cancer hospital would provide free treatment to all the patients. 

She announced that the world’s top cancer specialists would be called in for the hospital. For the cancer hospital’s patient care, the government will provide the greatest medical professionals and state-of-the-art equipment.

She also declared that screening for diseases will be started in the province, adding that when she vacated her office after five years, she wanted a state-of-the-art hospital in every city.

She also announced free medicines in all emergency departments of government hospitals from today. The Rescue 1122 service has been asked to launch a motorway ambulance service.

Meanwhile, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, along with Clara Strandhoj, Head of the British High Commission Lahore Office, discussed several key issues and initiatives.

Firstly, Jane Marriott congratulated Maryam Nawaz Sharif on her historic appointment as the first woman Chief Minister and expressed good wishes for her tenure. The Chief Minister thanked the British High Commissioner for her wishes.

Discussions primarily revolved around enhancing scholarships for Punjab students in top British universities and promoting girls’ education. Additionally, there was a focus on exchanging technology for monitoring the air quality index to tackle climate change and environmental pollution.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif shared her governance and transparency vision, highlighting the Digital Punjab initiative. The British High Commissioner commended the Digital Punjab vision, and Maryam Nawaz Sharif reiterated her commitment to modernizing Punjab through digitalization.

Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz Sharif assured all possible facilities to British institutions for establishing an IT University and provided insights into the IT Park project in Punjab, particularly in Lahore. She also mentioned the initiation of the IT Twin Towers project in Lahore very soon.

Overall, the meeting emphasized cooperation between Punjab and the United Kingdom in education, technology, environmental sustainability, and digital transformation, showcasing a commitment to progress and development in the region.
