PTI to approach IHC to hold live-telethon of Imran Khan for flood relief

In a video message shared on PTI’s official Twitter handle, Imran Khan urged the people including overseas Pakistanis to participate in the telethon and donate whatever they can.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is approaching the Islamabad High Court (IHC) today to get permission for the live-telecast of former prime minister Imran Khan’s international telethon for flood victims. The telethon is scheduled to be held on Monday night (today).

Last week, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) had imposed a ban on broadcasting live speeches of PTI Chairman Imran Khan on all satellite TV channels over his controversial remarks against police officials and a woman judge Zeba Chaudhry.

The PTI lawyers will file an application in the IHC today to seek directives for live telecast of his telethon to raise funds for flood victims.

Imran will hold an international telethon on Monday night from 9.30 to 12pm to help the flood victims. The chief ministers of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will also join him.

PTI chairman wants to raise funds and relief goods to help the flood-ravaged people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southern Punjab and other areas.

So far, 1033 people have died in floods and heavy rains while the number of flood-victims is being seen around 33 million, according to federal minister for climate change Sherry Rehman.

In a video message shared on PTI’s official Twitter handle, Imran Khan urged the people including overseas Pakistanis to participate in the telethon and donate whatever they can.
