PTC and CDA Launch ‘Throw and Grow’ Initiative to Enhance Greenery of Islamabad’s Margalla Hills

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tobacco Company (PTC) Limited and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) have joined forces to launch an innovative environmental initiative, “Throw and Grow,” aimed at enhancing the greenery of Islamabad’s iconic Margalla Hills. This campaign, announced in a PTC news release on Saturday, seeks to actively engage hikers and visitors in fostering the region’s ecological growth.

At the entrance points of Trail 3 and Trail 5, stalls have been set up where visitors can obtain seedballs made from native species such as Sukhchain and Pine. Staff at these stalls will guide participants on how to disperse the seedballs as they hike, leveraging the favorable Monsoon season to ensure rapid germination. This hands-on approach allows hikers to contribute directly to the afforestation of the Margalla Hills while enjoying their outdoor activities.

PTC has a longstanding history of community-focused environmental activities. The company operates six nurseries across Pakistan, including two in Islamabad, and has planted and distributed over 150 million saplings since 1981 through its extensive afforestation program. This year, PTC aims to donate and plant over 2.5 million saplings across Pakistan to further support national afforestation efforts.

The “Throw and Grow” initiative is a continuation of PTC’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community involvement. By encouraging people from all walks of life to participate, PTC and CDA hope to enhance the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Margalla Hills.

The initiative has been met with enthusiasm from the community and environmental advocates alike. It underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in preserving and enhancing natural landscapes. As the campaign progresses, it is expected to make a significant positive impact on the ecological health of the Margalla Hills, providing a model for similar initiatives in other regions.

PTC and CDA invite everyone to join the “Throw and Grow” movement, contributing to the Margalla Hills’ beauty and biodiversity, and supporting the broader goals of environmental conservation and community engagement.
