Prime Minister Shehbaz says elections can be held in Oct/Nov

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the general elections can be held in the country in October or November this year.

PM Shehbaz stated this on Wednesday while addressing a meeting of the cabinet held in Islamabad. Premier stated this a day ahead of the resumption of the elections case in the Supreme Court, on April 27. It is the D-day for the government to release Rs 21 billion funds for elections in Punjab province.

He said that there is a consensus that the National Assembly would complete its term on August 13. Thus, the elections could be held after completion of the NA’s term.

Shehbaz Sharif also said that the coalition partners have unanimously decided to hold elections in October.

He also said that the Parliament has rejected the decision of the Supreme Court as majority of the judges opposed it. He said that four judges opposed the suo motu case while only three supported it.

PM Shehbaz criticised Imran Khan while reiterating that the legislature would decide about disbursement of funds to the electoral body for conducting polls in the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) – where assemblies had been dissolved by Imran to force snap polls in the country.
