The Islamabad police requested on Wednesday that PTI leader Shahbaz Gill’s physical detention be extended by another week after he was detained and booked on charges of sedition and inciting mutiny in the army for comments he made on ARY News.
The police are asking for an extension since Gill’s two-day remand, which the court approved last Wednesday, is about to end, even though it did not begin on time and is therefore incomplete.
This is the second time the PTI has asked for and been granted an extension in this case, and it comes amid allegations of torture and sexual assault against the party leader. Today’s hearing took place in a district and sessions court in the nation’s capital, and the request was presented to the presiding judge, Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman.
