ISLAMABAD: In the early hours, a group of 12 to 14 terrorists launched a coordinated attack on the Quboolkhel checkpost, manned by the Esakhel police in Mianwali district.
The attackers, heavily armed with rocket launchers and hand grenades, targeted the checkpost, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The police personnel stationed at the checkpost responded swiftly and with full force, successfully thwarting the attack.
According to a spokesperson for Mianwali District Police Officer Akhtar Farooq, the terrorists fled the scene as the police mounted a robust defense.
The Esakhel DSP and SHO, along with a large contingent of officers, were present at the checkpost during the attack. Two policemen sustained minor injuries in the skirmish.
Following the attack, authorities launched a large-scale search operation in the area to locate and apprehend the fleeing terrorists, who are believed to have suffered significant casualties during the exchange.
Punjab IGP Dr. Usman Anwar commended the bravery and quick response of the police officers at the Quboolkhel checkpost. He praised their efforts in repelling the terrorist attack, which is the ninth such assault on the Punjab police in recent months.
Dr. Anwar also emphasized that the Punjab police serve as an iron wall against terrorists at the border checkposts.
Three Killed in Road Accident
In a separate incident, tragedy struck on the CPEC road when a car collided with a trailer, causing the vehicle to overturn and catch fire. Despite a swift response from the rescue team, all three occupants of the car were declared dead at the scene.
The victims were traveling to Dera Ismail Khan when the accident occurred. Their bodies were transferred to the THQ hospital, where they remain unidentified.
Rescue officials are investigating the cause of the accident and working to ensure the safety of the area.
