Police Arrest Woman for Spreading Fake News in Lahore Rape Case

Lahore Rape Case

A woman has been arrested and charged for spreading false information regarding a fabricated rape case at a private college in Lahore.

The accused, identified as Sarah Khan, allegedly used social media to claim that she was the mother of a student who had been a victim of rape at the institution.

Her claims, which quickly gained attention online, led to legal action being taken against her.

The case was registered at the Gulberg Police Station, where the authorities invoked several legal provisions, including violations under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.

The complaint was filed by Muhammad Imran Khan, an officer of the Police Service of Pakistan, who stated that Sarah’s allegations were entirely baseless.

He emphasized that her statements had created confusion and panic, further complicating the already sensitive situation.

Sarah Khan had posted a video on social media platforms where she alleged that her daughter was the victim in the purported incident.

The video caused a significant stir, adding to the growing speculation and public outrage surrounding the case.

However, upon investigation, the authorities found no evidence to support her claims. In fact, her assertions were found to be entirely false, leading to the conclusion that the case was fabricated.

The police have now launched an operation to locate and apprehend the accused. Several raids have already been conducted, with officials stating that Sarah’s arrest is expected soon.

Authorities are treating the matter seriously, as spreading false information can have far-reaching consequences, particularly in cases as sensitive as sexual assault allegations.

They have warned the public against sharing or creating misleading content, as it not only damages reputations but also diverts attention from genuine cases that require legal action and public attention.

As the investigation continues, the authorities remain committed to holding Sarah accountable for her actions under the country’s cybercrime laws, ensuring that such false claims are not repeated in the future.
