PM Shehbaz to monitor flood-relief situation in Balochistan, death toll rises to 136

The heavy monsoon spells have claimed lives of 136 people in the province while 13,000 homes have also been damaged in the flash floods.

QUETTA/ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he would personally monitor flood-relief activities in Balochistan.

PM Shehbaz stated this during a day-long visit to Balochistan on Monday to monitor the relief work being carried out to provide help to the flood-affected population of the country.

Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt. General Akhtar Nawaz gave a briefing to the Premier about the relief efforts being carried out by the disaster management authority in the province.

Upon arrival in Quetta, Chief Minister of Balochistan Abdul Qudos Bizenjo received the prime minister while chief secretary briefed PM Shehbaz about the flood situation in the province at the airport.

Later on, PM visited the temporary tent village established for the affectees in Khushnoob area of Kila Saifullah where the officials of NDMA and PDMA briefed the Premier about the ongoing relief activities.

They informed the PM that a chain of medical camps has been set up in the province to provide health care to people.

On this occasion, PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized on the need for provincial and federal authorities to work together.
