Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Pakistan’s standout javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, for his remarkable achievement of securing a silver medal in the 2023 World Athletics Championship. In recognition of his historic feat, the Prime Minister announced a cash prize of Rs2.5 million in his honor.
During their meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif praised Arshad Nadeem’s dedication and perseverance, especially considering the challenges he faced with limited resources. He emphasized that Nadeem’s accomplishment brought great pride to the nation.
Attending the meeting were Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Romeena Khurshid Alam MNA, and Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, a member of the Punjab Assembly.
The Prime Minister underscored the abundance of talent in Pakistan’s sports arena, stressing the importance of nurturing it. He also highlighted the significance of promoting sports in rural areas to harness this potential fully.
Arshad Nadeem briefed the Prime Minister about his sporting journey and past achievements. Starting his career in 2012, he participated in various world events across different categories, proudly representing Pakistan.
Describing the meeting as productive, Nadeem shared insights with the Prime Minister on measures to further advance sports in the country.
Arshad Nadeem secured Pakistan’s first-ever medal in the World Athletics Championship by claiming the silver in the Javelin Throw competition held in Budapest, Hungary, with a remarkable throw of 87.82 meters.
India’s Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold medal with a throw of 88.17 meters, making Nadeem’s achievement even more significant in Pakistani sports history.
