In a clarification issued on Monday, the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted the distinct objectives of the newly launched operation “Azm-e-Istehkam,” urging the public and media to avoid drawing comparisons with previous military operations.
The statement described “Azm-e-Istehkam” as a strategic shift in Pakistan’s approach to achieving sustainable peace and security.
The operation emphasizes a multifaceted strategy that encompasses military actions as well as political, diplomatic, legal, and informational efforts aimed at eradicating terrorism and extremism within the country.
“The purpose of ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ is to decisively eliminate the remnants of terrorists and their facilitation networks, ensuring a safe environment conducive to economic development,” stated a spokesperson from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The office further clarified that while previous operations like Zarb-e-Azb and Rah-e-Nijat were pivotal in dismantling terrorist strongholds, “Azm-e-Istehkam” signifies a new phase focused on sustained stability without large-scale military operations that could disrupt civilian life.
“This initiative is not merely a continuation of past operations but a holistic approach towards long-term security and prosperity,” emphasized the spokesperson.
The statement from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government also called for a unified national effort and support for “Azm-e-Istehkam”.
