Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a senior-level meeting on Wednesday to review progress in the IT and telecom sectors, underlining the administration’s focus on expanding IT exports and modernizing digital education.
Emphasizing that enhancing IT exports is a key government priority, the prime minister instructed that Information Technology be made a compulsory subject beginning in sixth grade nationwide. He stressed that early exposure to digital skills, combined with top-tier training, will equip young Pakistanis for high-quality employment both domestically and abroad.
The session included comprehensive briefings on existing digital initiatives and training programs. Shehbaz Sharif directed education and telecom authorities to implement a standardized IT curriculum without delay, working closely with provincial governments to ensure consistency across schools, colleges, and research institutions.
Officials also reported ongoing upgrades under the School Broadband Connectivity Project, which is expanding high-speed internet access in Islamabad’s schools to support interactive learning.
The prime minister reiterated that IT education must extend beyond theory to include practical, skill-based training—preparing students to compete in the global technology market.
