ISLAMABAD: A notification from the Interior Ministry banning the issuance of passports to asylum seekers abroad has been challenged in the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP).
The petition requests the apex court to nullify the government’s June 5 policy, which restricts passport issuance to asylum seekers abroad.
“The notification of the passport ban is discriminatory and against fundamental rights,” the petition states.
The federal government and the Director General of Passports have been named as parties in the petition.
Advocate Saim Chaudhary filed the petition under Section 184(3).
The petition also requests the immediate suspension of the government’s policy, arguing that the notification did not specify the reasons for the ban.
The petition claims that the government notification is contrary to Articles 10, 10A, and 25 of the Constitution.
