ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed willingness to grant Uzbekistan access to Pakistani ports.
The Republic of Uzbekistan is a doubly landlocked country. It is surrounded by other landlocked countries _ Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
During a meeting in Islamabad, Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov called on PM Shehbaz Sharif and discussed issues of mutual cooperation.
The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to collaborating with Uzbekistan to expedite and finalize all mutual trade and connectivity initiatives.
He emphasized the importance of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Railway Project, reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to its timely implementation.
The discussions between the two sides also focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, the economy, security, defense, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges.
Additionally, Saidov extended an invitation from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for Prime Minister Shehbaz to visit Uzbekistan at his earliest convenience.
Expressing gratitude to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Prime Minister eagerly anticipated the upcoming meeting.
On a related note, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan resolved on Tuesday to further strengthen ties between their two countries.
During a telephonic conversation, the Premier extended condolences on the passing of Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan and prayed for the departed soul’s elevated status.
“The people of Pakistan have always held the UAE royal family in high esteem. The people of Pakistan admire the leadership of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, particularly, who was a great friend,” said the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, the UAE President expressed gratitude to PM Shehbaz for the telephonic conversation.
