Pakistan invites Indian Commerce Minister to SCO Trade Ministers’ Meeting

Pakistan has extended an invitation to Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to attend the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Trade Ministers Meeting in Islamabad, scheduled for next week. This invitation is part of a broader outreach, as Pakistan has also invited other SCO member nations, including Uzbekistan, Belarus, China, Tajikistan, and others, to participate in the event.

The meeting will bring together trade and economic ministers from all SCO member states to discuss and enhance cooperation in trade and economic matters. The key topics of discussion are expected to revolve around strengthening economic ties and fostering collaborative efforts among the member countries. The proposals and agreements reached during this ministerial meeting will be presented at the SCO Heads of State Summit, which is also scheduled to be held in Islamabad in October.

In a significant move towards potential engagement, Pakistan has also extended an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the upcoming Heads of State Summit. This invitation comes despite ongoing tensions between the two countries, highlighting the importance of the SCO as a platform for dialogue and cooperation.

The SCO, which includes several key regional players, offers a vital forum for addressing shared challenges and opportunities, particularly in the realms of trade, security, and regional stability. The upcoming meetings in Islamabad are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of economic collaboration among member states, with implications for broader geopolitical dynamics in the region.

This initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation within the SCO framework, despite the complexities of its bilateral relations with India.
