‘No Decision yet’ on Imran Khan’s House Arrest, Says Punjab CM

‘No Decision yet’ on Imran Khan’s House Arrest, Says Punjab CM:

Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has not been placed under house arrest, according to the Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Following Khan’s arrest on May 9 in a corruption case—the day the army referred to as “Black Day”—enraged supporters of Khan’s party attacked military installations including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commanders House. Since then, Khan’s party has been subject to the full force of the state’s power.

During a press conference in Lahore, the interim chief minister responded to rumours that officials might be thinking about making Khan’s home in Zaman Park a sub-jail and placing him under house arrest.

There are many women among the thousands of people detained in connection with the incident on May 9; the PTI asserts that their female followers have suffered mistreatment in jails.

PTI Chairman Khan

PTI Chairman Khan called on the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the matter during his speech and urged the judiciary to step in to address the alleged mistreatment of his female employees while they were detained.

The chief minister, however, denied these allegations.

“Women have been dealt with in line with the law. [PTI] is resorting to propaganda regarding women being mistreated in prisons,” the chief minister stated.

32 women were detained in total, although only 11 of them are still behind bars, according to CM Naqvi. He emphasised that the government must take care to protect “mothers and sisters.”

In his words, “The events that occurred on May 9 were unprecedented.”

The chief minister declared that the government will not exercise restraint, regardless of the power wielded by the alleged Jinnah House attackers.

Khadija Shah, a supporter of the PTI, is currently being held by the police, and an identity parade will take place, according to CM Naqvi, who was questioned about her.

This query was raised in response to Shah’s social media video apology for her “actions” on May 9 that went viral.
