CNIC Blocking
On Monday, the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) vehemently denied allegations of blocking the Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) of 18 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including former ministers. The spokesperson for NADRA refuted the claims, stating that the authority has not taken any such action, and no court directives have been issued in this regard.
The spokesperson emphasized that the interior ministry has not issued any directives to initiate the process of blocking CNIC for the mentioned PTI leaders. Among the reported PTI leaders whose CNICs were allegedly blocked are Ali Amin Gandapur, Muhammad Aslam Iqbal, Malik Karamat Khokhar, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, Zubair Khan Niazi, Malik Nadeem Abbas, and Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan. According to initial reports, the CNICs were purportedly blocked at the request of the police and were to remain blocked until the conclusion of investigations into the cases.
