The National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued a warning about potential terrorist attacks during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad. According to NACTA, the militant group Fitna al-Khawarij is allegedly planning attacks not only on the protest but also in other major cities across Pakistan.
The alert indicated that several attackers linked to the group crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan on the nights of November 19 and 20. These individuals are believed to be targeting public gatherings, particularly the PTI’s rally. NACTA urged law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant in light of the credible threat.
Meanwhile, Islamabad police are conducting search operations and have so far arrested 200 individuals suspected of being involved in unlawful activities. Police also recovered weapons from those detained. Authorities emphasized that Section 144 is in effect in the capital and urged citizens to comply with legal orders.
A police spokesperson stated that public safety remains a priority, assuring citizens that all necessary measures will be taken to maintain order in compliance with the Islamabad High Court’s directives. Violators of the law will face strict action, the spokesperson added.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has engaged with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar to discuss the situation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to adhering to court orders while addressing concerns related to the protest scheduled for November 24.
