An anti-terrorism court in Muzaffarabad ordered a medical examination of Kashmiri poet Ahmad Farhad on Saturday, following a request filed on the suspicion of slow poisoning. The case has garnered significant attention due to the serious allegations and the poet’s deteriorating health condition.
During the hearing, Farhad’s wife, Urooj Zainab, requested the court to appoint new lawyers for her husband. She expressed concerns about the current legal representation and asked for senior lawyers Sardar KD Khan and Mahmood Baig to take over. The court accepted her request for a change of lawyer, recognizing the gravity of the situation.
Sardar KD Khan, one of the newly appointed lawyers, filed a fresh application in court. He reported that he had met Ahmad Farhad the previous night and found his condition to be concerning, further alleging that his client was being administered slow poison. This alarming claim prompted immediate action from the court.
In response to the lawyer’s request, the anti-terrorism court ordered a medical examination of Farhad. A team of doctors from the Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences has been assigned to conduct the examination, ensuring that a thorough and accurate assessment of his health is made.
The court’s decision underscores the importance of addressing the allegations promptly and ensuring that Farhad receives appropriate medical care. The situation remains tense as the investigation into his condition continues.
The case has been adjourned until June 3, allowing time for the medical examination to be completed and for further legal preparations. The court’s actions reflect a commitment to justice and the well-being of the accused, amidst a backdrop of serious allegations and public concern.
