Maulana Fazlur Rehman Calls for Immediate New Elections

New Elections

SARGODHA: JUI-F emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman renewed his call for fresh elections on Saturday, asserting that the current assembly lacks legitimacy.

Speaking to party workers in Khushab, he highlighted the pressing need for new elections, criticizing the government’s management of the country.

He remarked, “At present, it’s a case of putting the cart before the horse,” emphasizing the misalignment of priorities in the current political landscape.

Rehman reaffirmed JUI-F’s commitment to remaining in opposition, indicating that the party would continue to advocate for the people’s interests.

He noted that JUI-F had actively participated in discussions surrounding the recent constitutional amendment, positioning the party as a significant stakeholder alongside other opposition entities.

Addressing the recent change in command within the Supreme Court, Maulana Fazl expressed optimism for a “constructive term” under the newly appointed Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.

However, he opted not to comment on the tenure of the outgoing Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, stating, “Since he has completed his term, further comments serve no purpose.” This cautious approach indicates a desire to focus on future judicial proceedings rather than dwell on past leadership.

Earlier, during a gathering in Sargodha, the JUI-F chief reiterated the Federal Shariat Court’s ruling advocating for an interest-free economy, which he described as final.

He expressed confidence that the country would successfully transition to this economic model by 2028, highlighting the importance of adhering to Islamic financial principles.

When queried about the jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, Rehman stated that it was premature to comment on any possible discussions or meetings regarding his situation, underscoring the ongoing complexities surrounding Khan’s legal issues.

Additionally, Maulana Fazl commended the recent meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, viewing it as a constructive step from an economic standpoint.

He urged all political parties to come together to enhance the country’s economy, emphasizing the necessity of unity in these challenging times.

Regarding potential government plans for a new constitutional amendment, the JUI-F chief clarified that he was not aware of any forthcoming developments.

He firmly stated that his party would resist any attempts to incorporate the text of the 26th Amendment into future legislation, indicating a strong commitment to their political stance and principles.
