Maryam Nawaz demands ‘punishment’ for Chief Justice Bandial for stopping the judicial commission from probing audio leaks
ISLAMABAD: Chief Organizer of PML-N and SVP Maryam Nawaz demanded punishment for the chief justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial.
She said that the verdict of the Supreme Court against the Judicial Commission is “proof and admission of his guilt”.
“The person sitting on the highest seat of justice is using his position to avoid accountability. Shouldn’t you face the law if you [CJP Bandial] and your mother-in-law are clean? Or, being the chief justice, the law does not apply to you?” the PML-N chief organizer stated this on Saturday in her Twitter message.
Maryam Nawaz said the CJP “deserved to be punished for making the mockery of the law and judiciary to save his family”.
The statement of the PML-N comes as the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the Supreme Court have been at loggerheads over different issues including the government’s refusal to hold elections in Punjab on May 14 despite the order of the apex court.
The ruling alliance has also accused CJ Bandial of giving “undue facilitation” to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and demanded his resignation.
Judicial Commission adjourns proceedings after SC verdict
Justice Qazi Faez Isa resumed the proceedings of the Judicial Commission probing the audio leaks.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who is the head of the commission, has raised questions over the Supreme Court order stopping the judicial panel from working. The three-member judicial commission formed to investigate the alleged audio leaks related to the judges and their family members has stopped further proceedings.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa said the proceedings were being suspended till they are informed or notified again to continue.
