Theft Accusation
BAHAWALPUR: Five individuals allegedly gouged out the eyes of a man during a brutal act of torture in village 13-Soling, within the jurisdiction of Baghdadul Jadid police station, on Monday.
The incident occurred when the suspects accused Sufian of stealing a donkey cart and subjected him to extreme violence.
According to police and other sources, the suspects inflicted severe torture on Sufian, culminating in the horrifying act of gouging out his eyes.
The police spokesperson informed that Sufian has completely lost vision in one eye, while the other eye was severely damaged.
Additionally, he sustained multiple scars from the torture on various parts of his body.
Upon receiving orders from District Police Officer (DPO) Asad Sarfraz, a police team was immediately dispatched to the scene to apprehend the culprits.
Sufian was promptly admitted to the emergency ward of Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for treatment.
The police spokesperson revealed that the motive behind this gruesome crime was a land dispute.
He also confirmed that one suspect, identified as Iqrar Hussain, had been arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
At the time of filing this report, the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the suspects was underway.
In a separate case, an anti-terrorist court (ATC) on Monday handed down a death sentence along with a fine of Rs1 million to Raham Ali of Tarinda Muhammad Panah in Rahim Yar Khan district. However, his co-accused, Zahra Bibi, was acquitted of the murder charges.
According to the prosecution, in 2023, Raham Ali, along with Zahra Bibi, attacked Muhammad Nazim with acid due to an old enmity in the jurisdiction of Tarinda Muhammad Panah police station.
Muhammad Nazim later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The Tarinda police had charged both suspects with murder and Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) offences.
Following their arrest, the police submitted their challan to the ATC in Bahawalpur. ATC Judge Muhammad Arshad Anjum sentenced Raham Ali to death and imposed a fine of Rs1 million.
He also ordered Raham Ali to pay Rs1 million in compensation to the bereaved family of Muhammad Nazim. Zahra Bibi was acquitted of the murder charges, as the judge gave her the benefit of the doubt.
Both cases highlight the severe consequences of violent disputes in the region, with the authorities striving to bring justice to the victims and their families.
