ISLAMABAD: Pakistani social media users have been sharing a video clip with claims that it shows the judge presiding over former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s appeal against his conviction in the Iddat (unlawful marriage) case, dancing and throwing money at a wedding.
The video has garnered over a million views.
However, the claim is false.
On May 29, a user on X (formerly Twitter) posted a video over one minute long, showing a man dancing and showering a woman with money. The post, captioned “This is the honorable judge who has to decide the Iddat case,” has been viewed over 300,000 times. Similarly, a TikTok user claimed that the man in the video is District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand.
Nonetheless, the man in the video is not Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, who was to rule on an appeal filed by Imran Khan and his wife against their seven-year prison sentences in the unlawful marriage case. In fact, the man in the video is Chaudhry Asad, a resident of Rawalpindi.
Asad confirmed to Geo Fact Check that it was his video. “This video is four to five years old,” Asad said over the phone, adding that it was recorded at his friend’s wedding in Gujranwala.
Therefore, the social media user intentionally blamed the judge with the aim to defame him and the judiciary as well.
