KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: The second phase of local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad have been postponed once again due to rain and floods emergency.
The polling for the LG elections was scheduled to take place on on August 28 (Sunday).
On Wednesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan sought an urgent report from six institutions in preparation for local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.
An important meeting was held in Islamabad chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. The meeting discussed weather situation and the issues of local body elections.
Taking into account the prevailing situation in Karachi and Hyderabad, the ECP postponed the LGs elections.
Earlier, the local body elections were postponed in Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, Dadu, Thatta, Badin and Sajawal due to heavy rains and floods.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters on Wednesday, chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah said the rains and floods have devastated one million homes, destroyed crops and claimed more than 300 lives of people.
He said that the provincial government needs help from the federal government and others for providing relief to flood victims and rehabilitate the damaged infrastructure.
