LHC

The Lahore High Court (LHC) convened a hearing on Friday regarding the ongoing case of journalist Shakir Awan’s recovery.

The session was presided over by Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh, who addressed the concerns raised by Awan’s legal representative.

During the proceedings, Azhar Siddique, the lawyer representing Awan, informed the court of a disturbing incident. Siddique stated that around 20 unidentified individuals forcibly entered Shakir Awan’s residence under the cover of night.

The lawyer emphasized the severity of the situation, urging the court to take immediate action and summon a report on the incident to understand the circumstances surrounding Awan’s disappearance and ensure his safe recovery.

Justice Sheikh took note of the petition and directed the lawyer for the Punjab government to immediately consult with the City Police Officer (CCPO) of Lahore.

The court called for a prompt update regarding the progress of the investigation and the actions being taken to locate Awan.

Additionally, the lawyer for the federal government was instructed to seek input from the Secretary of Home Affairs and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to provide further clarity on any developments at the federal level that could aid in resolving the matter.

After hearing these concerns, Justice Sheikh adjourned the session for an hour, requesting detailed responses from the relevant authorities.

The court emphasized the importance of receiving timely and comprehensive reports from both provincial and federal officials to ensure that appropriate measures are being taken for the journalist’s recovery.

The case has attracted significant attention due to the serious nature of the allegations, and both national and international media are following the developments closely.

The LHC’s intervention reflects the growing concern over the safety of journalists in the country and the need for swift legal action when such incidents occur.
