LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has dismissed the objections raised by the Registrar’s Office against the bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and chairman Imran Khan in three cases from May 9.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Shehram Sarwar and Justice Amjad Rafiq, heard the petitions filed by Imran Khan challenging the cancellation of his interim bails in these cases.
The court’s decision to dismiss the Registrar’s Office’s objections allows Imran Khan’s petitions to proceed. The Registrar’s Office had raised concerns that the petitions lacked Imran Khan’s thumb impressions and that one petition did not include a copy of the First Information Report (FIR).
Imran Khan is contesting the decision of the Anti-Terrorism Court in the Lahore High Court, arguing that the trial court’s cancellation of his bails in the May 9 cases was against the facts. His petitions request the Lahore High Court to grant him interim bail, maintaining that the trial court’s decision was unjustified.
This legal development is a significant turn in the ongoing legal battles faced by the PTI chairman. The Lahore High Court’s ruling removes procedural obstacles, allowing for a substantive review of the bail cancellations. This decision is closely watched by political observers, given its potential impact on Imran Khan’s legal standing and political future.
As Imran Khan’s legal team prepares to argue for the reinstatement of his interim bail, the Lahore High Court’s proceedings will be pivotal in determining the outcome of these high-profile cases. The case highlights the ongoing judicial scrutiny and legal challenges faced by prominent political figures in Pakistan.
