ISLAMABAD: The federal government has recommended the name of Haji Ghulam Ali as the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Ghulam Ali is former Senator of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and a business tycoon as well. In the past, Haji Ghulam Ali has served as the President of the FPCCI _ business community’s apex forum in Pakistan.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sent a summary to President Arif Alvi for the appointment of Haji Ghulam Ali as Governor of KP.
Haji Ghulam Ali is also father-in-law of daughter of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
The JUI-F chief nominated Haji Ghulam Ali for the post which fell vacant when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s leader Shah Farman stepped down soon after Shehbaz Sharif was elected as Prime Minister in April this year.
The ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has also agreed on the name of the former JUI-F senator.
Haji Ghulam Ali had earlier served as the mayor of Peshawar and his son Zubair Ali was elected as the mayor of the provincial capital in local body elections held last December.
The province has been without a permanent governor for the past eight months.
