Karachi is experiencing a concerning increase in respiratory diseases, according to the latest data from the Sindh Health Department. As of February 13, 2025, there have been 248 reported cases of various respiratory ailments in the city, marking a significant rise in illnesses.
Among the reported cases, H1N1 influenza accounted for the largest share, with 119 cases reported in local hospitals. The Sindh Health Department’s figures reveal that 99 of these cases were recorded in private hospitals, while Dow University Hospital reported 20 cases. Additionally, there have been 95 cases of Influenza A and B confirmed by health authorities.
The rise in respiratory diseases also includes 8 cases of the coronavirus, 15 cases of Rhinovirus, and 2 cases of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). These infections have been spreading rapidly, with the health department urging the public to take necessary precautions to prevent further transmission.
Health experts are recommending the use of facemasks and frequent handwashing to reduce the risk of contracting influenza, as the virus is easily transmitted from person to person. Infected individuals are advised to stay home for at least 24 hours, limit their interactions with others, and avoid traveling until they have fully recovered.
Vaccination against influenza has been strongly recommended as the most effective method of protection. The Sindh Health Department continues to monitor the situation closely, urging citizens to take these preventive measures seriously to reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses in the city.
