Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar was sworn in as the acting chief justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday, following the elevation of the former chief justice to the Supreme Court. The oath-taking ceremony took place at the Governor’s House in Karachi, where Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori administered the oath. The event was attended by the additional attorney general, SHC judges, and the advocate general for Sindh.
Born on September 14, 1963, Justice Ghaffar pursued a legal career and obtained his LLB degree in 1990. His judicial journey began when he was appointed as an additional judge of the Sindh High Court in 2013. The following year, he was confirmed as a permanent judge of the high court. Over the years, he has gained a reputation for his legal expertise and dedication to upholding justice.
With his appointment, the total number of judges in the Sindh High Court has increased to 36, and Justice Ghaffar now holds the top position in the court’s seniority list. His tenure as the acting chief justice comes at a time when the judiciary continues to address key legal and constitutional matters across the province.
In a separate development, seven judges also took their oath as Supreme Court justices. These include Justices Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, Salahuddin Panhwar, Shakeel Ahmad, Aamer Farooq, Ishtiaq Ibrahim, and Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, who has been appointed as an acting judge.
The appointments mark a significant moment in Pakistan’s judicial system, reinforcing the role of the courts in maintaining the rule of law and delivering justice.
