Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial president Junaid Akbar has stepped down from his position as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). His resignation follows the party’s instructions, which he referred to as a matter of trust and loyalty.
Akbar submitted his resignation to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, stating that he accepted the decision as part of the leadership’s directive. He reaffirmed his commitment to follow any guidance issued by PTI founder Imran Khan.
According to party sources, the decision was made to allow Akbar to focus entirely on managing and strengthening the party’s structure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is believed that holding dual responsibilities was limiting his effectiveness, prompting the leadership to assign him solely to organisational duties.
PTI insiders confirmed that Imran Khan had personally instructed Akbar to relinquish the PAC chairmanship and concentrate on internal party affairs in the province. The message regarding Akbar’s resignation was conveyed to PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and senior leader Omar Ayub.
Barrister Gohar, speaking outside Parliament House, described the matter as an internal party affair and expressed confidence that all instructions from the founder would be implemented without issue.
Junaid Akbar had been elected unopposed as PAC chairman in January while simultaneously being appointed PTI’s provincial president, replacing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. Reports suggest that Omar Ayub is a strong candidate to succeed him as PAC chairman.
