ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced plans to organize a ‘Gaza March’ in Islamabad on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr in solidarity with Palestine.
In a statement, the JI spokesperson expressed that the march is aimed at demonstrating solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. Encouraging public participation, the spokesperson suggested performing the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer at Faisal Mosque while carrying the Palestinian flag.
“After the Eid prayer at Faisal Mosque, we will show solidarity with the people of Palestine and voice our protest against Israel,” stated the JI spokesperson.
Earlier, on March 10, JI had declared a ‘million march’ towards the United States embassy on the 27th of Ramadan to extend support to the oppressed Palestinians.
During a Gaza Solidarity March in Islamabad, JI’s Ameer Sirajul Haq criticized the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), alleging its failure to effectively support the Palestinians, limiting itself to mere statements.
“Our parliament has also passed resolutions without significant impact, and now the legislators hardly discuss the Gaza situation,” Haq added.
He emphasized that millions of people would participate in the march towards the American embassy on the 27th of Ramadan.
In other news, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has assumed leadership as the new Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan for the next five years, following his election on Thursday.
The transition of power within the party, conducted through intra-party elections, witnessed a significant turnout of over 45,000 members casting their votes.
Securing an impressive mandate, Naeem garnered over 80% of the votes, solidifying his position as the sixth emir of Jamaat-e-Islami. His tenure as the party’s chief is set to extend until 2029, as affirmed by the party’s central information secretary, Qaisar Sharif.
Highlighting the democratic values of Jamaat-e-Islami, Sharif stressed that the party’s leadership belongs to every member and worker, not to any individual or family.
The transition in leadership comes as Jamaat-e-Islami’s incumbent Emir, Sirajul Haq, concludes his second term on April 8. Naeem’s ascent to the party’s top ranks reflects his years of dedication and service.
Naeem’s political journey began with his involvement with Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT), the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, in 1988. He rose through the party ranks, assuming various leadership roles at local and national levels.
In Karachi, his leadership since 2013 has been marked by proactive initiatives addressing the city’s issues, such as the “Huqooq-e-Karachi Tehreek” (Rights of Karachi Movement).
Naeem’s leadership style, focusing on data-driven decisions and grassroots engagement, has reshaped Jamaat-e-Islami’s organizational structure. His innovative approach includes leveraging social media and building a diverse team.
As Naeem takes on his new role, his leadership is poised to steer Jamaat-e-Islami towards greater relevance and impact in Pakistan’s political landscape, grounded in inclusivity, service, and accountability.
