India Bans Pakistan-based OTT platforms, apps, and social media accounts

A popular Pakistani streaming platform has been banned in India for airing a daring web series depicting India’s Hindutva movement and faith-based atrocities.

According to reports, the Indian government used its emergency powers under the IT Rules 2021 for this purpose, and India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued orders for the immediate blocking of Sevak: The Confessions and Pakistan’s OTT platform Vidly.TV, which provided the streaming.

The web series highlighting Indian atrocities against minorities was viewed by the Indian authorities as “maligning the integrity of the Indian state,” according to Indian media sources.
